I always used to use some sort of locking system (usually an OFR) but these days I find that if the tuners are of decent quality, they stay in tune pretty well anyway.

The reason why I use locking tuners isn't really for tuning stability. It's more a convenience thing. It knocks well over half the time off during string changes as you don't have to do multiple wraps.

Good point and when the PRS needs the tuners replacing I will certainly look into those locking Vanson tuners

I have also heard very good things about the Hipshot locking tuners which are about £45 but they don't half look weird.

I definitely went with mine for the sake of easier strings changes. Got mine direct from Schaller, 7 for a good chunk cheaper than 6 from a UK reseller.

I have the Vansons on my explorer, they have been great, no problems at all.

I'll think very seriously about these the next time I'm wasting time winding strings.
Also, yeah, its not the stability. A decently made conventional tuner is perfectly stable, and most tuning problems are actually in the nut anyway. Its the winding. Fuck the winding. Fuck it right in the ear.

I've been using those Vanson Locking Tuners on my Eggle Prototype for a while now and they're really no worse than the Grover Locking Tuners I put on my PRS before I found the Vanson 1s, and they're a lot cheaper too!

I also got a vanson TOM bridge for my CHexplorer, and im very impressed with that too
