Or, it will be one day. Eventually.
I wrote this aaaages ago, and its currently the only full track of my own that's anywhere online and vaguely presentable. It's at the heaviest, most aggressive end of the spectrum of an instrumental metal record I've been planning to do for...ever I think.
The structure at time of recording is still languishing under the shadow of being arranged for vocals. But screw that, don't need those.
What you think?

This is a bit outside of my specific area of listening. But personally I would lower the cymbals a bit and maybe make the kick less clicky?
The closes thing to this that i've ver voluntarily listened to (other than this) would be Necrophagist. There are some pretty tough sounding riffs in here but I think it would need a lot more restructuring to work well as an instrumental.
Also the sweeps. That's an aftermath bridge isn't it? It has that sorta harshness super middy yet still hollow feeling to it. Do them on a 60!
The latter part of the song that fades in I would have a few toms in that section. Heck i'd have more toms throughout the song it's very snare/kick centric.
Actually the comment about the aftermath could be wrong as it's gotten towards the very end I feel it's an Engl? It has that really in your face grainy high end that always puts me off Engls.

Yeah, its the aftermath. It's also the VHT. The grain in the sound was intentional. I still might do it that way. I thought it needed a measure of harshness in the sound.
But anyway, toms/general lack of interest in the drums - agree. Cymbal level - not really sure. I like them reasonably loud anyway. Adds to the attack. Taken under advisement. Structure - Yeah, it certainly needs some more something to it. I have ideas. Only some of which I can actually play, but hey, that's what practice is for.
The danger there is overcomplicating. On deciding I wanted to do instrumental metal, the next thing I decided was that it wouldn't be wanked all over to compensate for lack of vocals. But I do have a cunning plan. I have to experiment with it first though.

Yeah at the most I think you need more tempo variation with maybe some simple drones or lead passages here and there but nothing Broderick like.
