Towards the beginning of the year I put the idea forward to vanhayden about a hybrid magnet pickup as I knew he had done some designed for downtuned metal a few years ago for a guy that I sent his way that was struggling to find his sound and it worked out really well.
See this thread for more info on that one.

But being the awkward git that I am I wanted something a little different that I have never come across before. I wanted the clarity and punch in the low end of an EMG81 whilst retaining the tightness and still being quite hot without the low end getting out of control.
To add to that awkward mission I knew he was working with Alnico 8 magnets so I asked him to mess about with an a8/Ceramic combo.
After many revisions and I imagine a lot of hair pulling Hayden popped around the other night with said creation.
It turned out far better than I expected and it ticked every single box that I asked for and too boot the cleans are great for a pickup that was designed primarily with tight rhythm playing in mind. I presume that this is due to the alnico 8.
I enjoyed it so much that I ended up playing longer and harder than I have in years which also resulted in something else that I hadn't done for years. Breaking some strings!
I picked some up today on my lunch but I didn't get back until late so soundclips shall be put together friday night hopefully as i'm pretty busy tomorrow night.
