That's New Stainless Steel Frets Day! Just got my Telecaster back from Ged Green in Cheadle, he's installed massive frets and planed the horrible 7.25 inch radius down to a much more workable 9.5 inch. I am stunned by the quality of work he does, this is the second guitar I've had him refret and it just feels incredible. Having the fingerboard flattened out is a weird experience - everything about the guitar feels identical until I start to play, then it's like an entirely different instrument. Different but way better than it was, this thing had pretty much slept in the case for years because of the skinny vintage frets and the horrible radius. Now it's playing incredibly well and full of the kind of twang and blast and raucous energy that you'd associate with a Tele. The frets feel like you're playing on a sheet of glass, bends are effortless and the guitar has been reborn. No wonder everyone loves Telecasters.
