The Het-Set shall reside in it later today.

I tried the get set as well as the 81/60a. They both sounded good but they were far too bright so I think I'll have to look elsewhere I think.

Clearly you need a 57/66 set then.

I've owned a few guitars where I've started to play it and the honeymoon period suggests it sounds pretty good but that soon wears off. So far my Gibson Les Paul Studio is different. I ALWAYS upgrade pickups so my gut is telling me that I should do the same with the Gibson but I just can't escape the fact that I REALLY like the 498T. It does a lot of the things I hoped to find in the A-Bomb but didn't so I am very reluctant to change it in case the guitar loses some of its magic, even though I know the pickups have some flaws. I really love that guitar.

Ive always like my LTD M1000 which came with emg 81's and sounded fantastic. Only changed because I wanted some thing slightly darker which truth be told it was actually peer pressure rather than my decision as 2 band mates said my sound was too abrasive even though it was a thrash band and I nailed the tone.... they didnt really understand thrash they just dabbled in it but it annoyed me whenever they bought it up enough to try some thing different. The pickups ended up being a nailbomb bridge/cold sweat neck and it worked very well for that.
Since ive bought a les paul and a 5150 iii though im going to try a vhii set in the ltd instead. I intend to use the les paul as my main metal axe if I join a band again and keep the ltd as some sort of alternative/back up/true super strat. Thats the theory any way see how it turns out.
I actually think this guitar would sound good with any thing and would say its as good as any other super strat ive played even the high end stuff.
I either got lucky or maybe theres just some thing in having a main guitar you play for years and years and years.
The Gibson 498t also worked really well in my les paul......I just wanted a ceramic bridge.

Well I got an email back from Dimarzio yesterday stating that there would be no point at all upgrading the pickups to a super distortion & super 2 as the stock dimarzio/Ibz actually are those pickups just branded differently. I guess it's time to give vanhayden a ring

I guess it's time to give vanhayden a ring really?! That's laughable. Why not just market the guitar as coming with actual real DiMarzio's? Surely more people would buy them.

He said the bridge is identical but the neck is ever so slightly hotter but it's a difference that isn't really notable.

LOL, that is pretty funny. I know a lot of the Ibanez fans don't consider them to be "real" Dimarzios. I remember when I tried them I didn't like them as much as the Tone Zone/Air Norton combo in another Ibanez I tried head to head... but then they're a totally different style of pickup, which are alnico for a start. It's possible all the Ibanez fans who don't consider the Dimarzio/IBZ pickups to be "real" just don't like ceramic, and probably wouldn't like the super distortion or super 2 either.
Again, LOL.
