The HVX are supposedly non-br00tal, but I beg to differ. They're a bit like what the nailbomb is supposed to be - enough output for metal, but good at everything. Except I think they're better than nailbombs. They're more focussed and less harsh and grainy, and even in response (a-bombs have a big mid hump, where c-bombs are a bit scooped; these are in between in EQ balance). If they end up released as a 7, I'm trying one. It might fix the issues I have with the Nailbomb in my LTD, and then I can sell the Nailbomb for about 20 times the price I got the Entwistle for! |

Resurrecting this to say I've just bought a Dark Star 7 (as well as a new jack, switch and pots) for this   It's been due redoing for a long time (mainly the electronics) but I may as well actually throw an Entwistle in. I've never been huge on the sound of this guitar (especially as it's a Duncan JB in there which while good, is a bit too generic for this guitar) so hopefully this will make it come alive. |

Last I heard on 7s from entwistle was "Maybe", via tony.
That was literally the entire email.
Anton, why the hell wouldn't you just buy one? It probably costs about a tenner.

The Dark Star 7 is in, and yep, I like it. The clarity is awesome on it, and it has some nice low end/low mid thump, but without being boomy. Think I can get used to £20 pickup changes....
Edit: Quiet as fuck too. I'm sold.

Good idea! I'm gonna guess there's only really me and Stu on here that's want the 7 strings, so I'm out I guess in that case, unless they're willing to do a discount across both the 6 and 7 string of the same model.

To be honest, the price is hilariously low as it is so I'm not going to cry much over not getting a discount. After playing with the Dark Star for a while, I'd have been happy if this pickup costed the same as an SD or Dimarzio. Anything of mine that hasn't had a pickup change already is getting one, I may even get rid of the Nailbomb in my LTD for one too...

I'd rather use an HDN than any BK. Same for HVXs.
But people seem to be put off by the price. Which is strange. Even after being ranted at about how good they are.

Aye, I can vaguely understand because more often than not people recommend cheap kit because its cheap, not because its good (I have met far too many people like that, including family!). I think we all know of the guy who thinks Ant's Hagen was a waste of money because he got a Peavey Triple X much cheaper (it's actually a waste because Ant is a prick).
Even then though, with them being that cheap, it only takes trying one once and you've got your answer. I was at minimum expecting it to be better than the JB that was in my Rhoads (the JB is okay but I don't love it), never expected it to become one of my favourite pickups (we'll see if that holds true once I get a couple more for two other guitars)

I'm thinking about trying 1 of these in my modded Helly Kitty Strat and using the Super Distortion from that in a Wolfgang I'm (hopefully) getting soon.
